Welcome to The Rest Rebellion
We are here to start a revolution against the current way of the world and the system. A world that is so fast paced, none of us can keep up resulting in unprecedented levels of stress and mental and physical health problems.
Society views rest as unforgivable, something to look down on and frown upon. If you sit and do nothing, that’s shocking and you must be shunned and shamed for ‘being lazy.’
We are treated and have been conditioned to treat ourselves as machines, meekly playing our roles in order for life to continue as it has been- a patriarchal, capitalist and consumerist society that thrives at the expense of the planet and all beings on it, particularly those with less privilege.
A life which is shaped around a sense of scarcity, where we are taught to live in a permanent state of feeling not enough because we are bombarded with unattainable perfectionist ideals – what we have and who we are isn’t enough and so we are constantly striving to be somewhere different from where we are, someone different from who we are, sucking the planet and life and ourselves dry as we do so, desperately trying to prove our worth whilst rushing through life like a bull in a china shop because time is money and time and money are scarce bla bla bla. (That long and endless sentence sums it up beautifully, trying to get as many words into one sentence as possible with not enough breaks!).
We have lost balance with our relentless and compulsive doing (which is yang energy, the masculine) which is why things are spiralling out of control at the moment. That sentence was written a year before the coronavirus came along and it has got so much worse since then to the point that more and more people are waking up to the need for change. The feminine/yin has been suppressed and needs to be allowed back into the world in order to re-establish balance between the yin and yang, feminine and masculine. In resting, you are bringing more yin energy into the world and helping resurrect the feminine and restore balance which is vital for the earth’s wellbeing and everyone on it. We all have both energies inside us and we need both, in balance.
Resting is one of the most important things you can do for your health and has all sorts of wide-ranging benefits and impacts all areas of your life for the better.
You cannot live your best life and be your best self without rest period. Rest has many layers to it, some extremely deep and powerful that most of us never reach. It also solves most of the world problems.
Rest is the most fundamental thing we can do for our mental and physical wellbeing
In order to be able to rest, we have to learn the tools that are the same for managing our mental wellbeing successfully. We have to face our inner children, and our shadows. We can’t run away from anything when we are resting, we can’t run away from ourselves. Keeping busy is a trauma induced response, resting enables us to heal all the trauma. It teaches us to be kind and compassionate to ourselves which has the ripple effect of us treating others with more compassion and kindness. It forces us to sit with any of the world’s problems which then inspires us to act because we truly feel the pain of all the suffering around us rather than turning away and carrying on with our busy lives.
Our relentlessly consuming busy lives are the reason why we are in the mess we are, we just carried on heads down ignoring any issues because they were not convenient to take on board and have been jolted awake by life going ‘what the hell are you all doing?’
With rest, we find our true selves and who we really are so we are more able to change the world for the better. Rest is a sacred, mysterious goddess and the more you connect with this energy, the more magic that happens.
We believe in a simpler, slower life. Where we are happier and content with less, where the simple things in life bring us so much joy. We also believe in conserving our resources, as we are rapidly depleting the earths and our own. We need to learn to make better use of all our resources for all our sakes.
We rebel against this craziness of ostracizing rest! We say society has gone mad and needs to be sectioned.
We say no to constant doing and over busyness! No to constant growth and getting things done! No to consumerism, overstimulation and overwhelm! No to the rat race! No to the hamster wheel! No to running around like a headless chicken! No to the shoulds! No to rushing! No to the to do list! No to tying up our value and worth to our productivity! No to feeling guilty for resting! No to harming our earth and each other!
We say yes to rest! Yes to doing nothing! Yes to achieving nothing! Yes to being! Yes to not being productive! Yes to slowing down and smelling the roses!Yes to stillness and pausing! Yes to silence! Yes to being on our own! Yes to sustainability! Yes to a slow paced life, yes to peace and quiet! Yes to relaxing, nurturing and nourishment! Yes to taking exquisite care of ourselves and each other and our beautiful planet!
So take a stand by lying down.
Let’s bow down at the alter of rest
We will not let the world go back to how it was before. Let’s not play ball and our assigned roles in keeping things going as they have been. We don’t need to go along with this, we can say no and choose to live our lives differently. We know things need to change, we know a new world needs to be birthed. Just because the great machine starts turning again, does not mean you have to get back on.
Let’s come home to ourselves. Reconnect to ourselves, each other and the earth. This loss of connection is responsible for so many of the issues in today’s world.
We want this to be a place of inspiration, a place which will help to not only inspire you to rest but to support you in it. Even when we know all the research behind why it’s important to rest on so many levels, it’s hard to rest when the mind starts cracking the whip and bullying the body into submission. If you fall off the rest wagon or start beating yourself up and feeling harassed by shoulds, come and spend time with us here to put you back on the right path again. We can walk you back home to yourself and teach you how to create sanctuary in Rest and in yourself, always there for you in the turbulent current times.
